About me
What is there to know about me...
Academics
Grew up in the Parisian suburbs most of my life. Primary school in Saint Cloud, with a (dreaded) "Wednesday program" in Sèvres where I studied english litt for 4h in the morning (way to get your day started...). Indeed, being franco-american, it was important to my parents that I grow up in a multicultural anglophone environment. Ended up joining the Sections Internationales de Sèvres - aka SIS - in middle school, and went behind Versailles in Buc at the Lycée Franco Allemand for high school but believe me, I still don't speak a word of german, there just happened to be an international anglophone section.
After 3 very studious years of high school, I joined the french prépa classes in Maths and Physics near St Lazare at Fénelon Sainte Marie. I have some fond memories of those years and to some extent I'm still a little nostalgic. I love learning new things and applying science to real world applications. You'll see more of that in the content I publish 🙂
Prépa lead me to a civil engineering school called Ecole Spéciale des Travaux Publics - aka ESTP - even though it was growing on me to go into architecture at some point. Did my master's abroad in California, Berkeley for my final year and boy oh boy was it a blast. Would have wanted to stay there but COVID happened and came back to be close to my family which, in hindsight, I don't regret one bit. Still dreaming to move to the US when the time is right...
Career
https://www.linkedin.com/in/kieranjanin/
I started out in Paris as a civil engineer and data analyst for a company now called Socotec Monitoring. It was an interesting experience for sure, leading structural health monitoring projects on french infrastructure in Marseille, Aix en Provence, Ajaccio, Brest, Bonneuil-sur-Marnes, Donges, Cercier and more.
For ethical reasons, I saught another job in the construction industry but dealing with data. I landed an interview with the head of LabTP, the innovation lab of Bouygues Travaux Publics, who was excited to work with me on new topics that were coming up in the lab. My work mainly involved analyzing machine telematic data to calculate as-built plannings for worksite managers.
Looking to learn more about how innovation happens, I saught training in Design Thinking and Design Fiction by the Ponts' d.school.
I'm currently a data scientist with a knack for use cases in civil engineering and carbon observability but really anything innovation related 🙂
